cinco de mayo {diy papel picado}

We are having a little get-together this weekend and it just so happens to be Cinco de Mayo, so fajitas, tostadas, and margaritas are on the menu.  I wanted to decorate with a little something festive, so I dug through my tissue paper selecting these bright colors and got to work on a little papel picado banner.  Here's what I did:

Instructions
  1. Select your tissue paper colors.  Cut to desired size (I folded the whole sheet in half twice and then cut, making four pieces)
  2. For my boarder, I used a cup and traced half circles and then cut (you can go here for stencils)
  3. Use stencils found here, or trace your own (that's what I did)
  4. Continue cutting your arrangement (you can go here for examples)
  5. Hang with string
  6. Add reinforcement tabs on corners then punch hole for string
*since the tissue paper was already folded and had creases, I didn't worry too much about folding it to cut the different shapes, thus creating an equal pattern

Are you making any plans for Cinco de Mayo?

Last year I made this simple little fiesta centerpiece for another get-together we hosted.  If you're interested in seeing the full post, click the link below the picture :)

Have a great day!

This amazing collection of beach bags was put together by Desiree @ Chic Coastal Living.  She has the most amazing style and always puts together the best fashion collections and the most beautiful homes and home decor finds.

Bags and purses are my weakness and I love every single one of these beach bags she selected so much that I had to share.  And J.Crew is having 25% off happening now, if you want to get your hands on one of these beauties.

weekend

Good Morning!  Hope your weekend was a good one.  This was a crazy busy weekend for us.  Preston had a Friday night and Saturday morning baseball game and Lyla had her dance recital on Sunday afternoon.  And because that wasn't enough for one weekend, we thought that we would squeeze in a wedding Saturday evening that was 3 hours away too  :)  Grant and I left the kids with grandparents and headed out after Preston's game and had a kid free night!  It was a busy, but fun weekend!

Have a great day!
