diy wall letter

Happy Monday!  We are back from our trip and in recovery mode.  We had an amazing time and after I sort through all our pictures I will share more of the details later this week.  And because I had 29 + hours in the car, I became obsessed with instagram.  Why am I so behind on this one?  I've had an account since last summer, but honestly had only used it a couple of times since then.  But boy I sure made up for it last week!  Anyways, sorry if I stalked some of you over the passed couple of days, but it was the long care ride ;)

Back to this project -- I have been itching to make some little changes in both my kids' rooms.  I really, really wanted to add some orange to Preston's room and finally got around to it.  He previously had his name spelled out across the top of his bed, but I felt like just his initial fit his age better now.  So here's what I did.

  1. The original plan was to have Grant cut me a board, but then I remembered I had this old picture that was already close to the size I needed and the edges were already routed.  So that's what I used.
  2. Picked out this fire orange spray paint for the letter and gave it a couple of coats (the letter is from Hobby Lobby.)
  3. Primed the board with kilz and then painted it white.
  4. Taped off my stripes and painted gray stripes.

While I was at it, I also painted his lamp base and these star hooks (which I still need to hang).

I still have plans to add things to this wall, but this is were we are today.

Here's are some other plans I have for this room.

I've already ordered this duet cover

And I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on these sheets

Not really planning on doing a nautical theme, but just love the prints and the colors.  Let me know what you think -- orange anchors or blue whales??  Back with updates soon!

vacation time & a winner

Good morning!  We are finally off on our Florida vacation.  Not sure if you remember, but we were supposed to go to Disney World over Spring Break, but both our kids got sick with the flu :(  So, we had to reschedule and the time has finally come to make a second attempt at it!

Despite how upset we all were to have to canceled in the Spring, it has all worked out in the end.  We ended up adding beach time to our trip, which we were not going to do at Spring Break.

I can't wait to spend the week enjoying the last part of our summer!  I'll be back to next week with the details, but until then you can follow our trip on instagram.  I'll be back with another quick diy I did in Preston's room that I wanted to share with you this week.

And the winner of the Happy Everything Cookbook is Entry # 121 Karen A - Congratulations!

Have a great day!

5 on friday {july top 5}

Hey there Friday!  So happy to see you again!  Today I'm taking part in the 5 on Friday series again and taking a look back at the top five happenings around our home in July.

1.  I was so surprised to see how many little diy projects I did this month.  There were three.  Of course, they were pretty quick and easy, but none the less there were three and this is a personal monthly record for me.

2.  Next up was adding some brightness to our kitchen.  Now that we have nice white cabinets (you can read about dark cabinets and paint process here), I added some bright accents.  No big major purchases or changes, but just some cheerful yellow and orange touches.  A yellow rug, yellow chevron bowl and some fresh orange flowers did the trick!

3.  Made this delicious cheddar cornbread.  It was so good and I only ate half of it while it was still warm :)  You can get the recipe here.

4.  Enjoying my summer with these two kiddos.  I'm so happy they love to scooter and ride bikes.  Because it's summer and they have a later bedtime and to avoid the heat, we head out late in the evening around 7:30 and spend some time outdoors.

5.  We spent a few days in Port Aransas with my family.  Lyla loved building sand castles and Preston loves the water.  Grant and the guys played horseshoes and I sat back and watched everyone!  We actually packed up and ended up staying about 6 or 7 hours at beach each day.  So happy they both enjoy it as much as we do!

And that wraps up July for us!  Hope your weekend is great!

P.S.  Just getting on board with instagram and really having fun with it -- you can find my page here.
