counter stools

I've had some questions recently about our counter stools, so I thought I would talk a little about them today.  Our kitchen, breakfast and family room area is one open room and it's modest in size.  So to maximize the seating in here I knew I wanted stools for our island.  And I wanted stools that you could lean back in and be a little more comfortable.

*side note - still on the to do list for this kitchen is replacing the backsplash and island lighting...one of these days :)

So I choose these from Restoration Hardware during one of their sale events and have been really happy with them.  I love the look and they have been very functional in this space.  We use them a lot!  They are counter height and I love that they have arm rest and cushions as well.

Here are others that I like.

The only change I would maybe make if I were choosing new ones today, would be picking a lighter color.  Love the weathered oak finish and the light seagrass color.  And how fun are the Serena and Lily Riviera Stools!

Which is your favorite?

Have a great day!

welcoming fall

Now that we are finally getting some cooler weather, I decided to add a few touches of Fall to our front door and porch area.  And keeping with my simple style, just a few changes has made the front of our home more welcoming of the new season.

I love, love, love boxwoods.  They are traditional, classic and add beautiful, rich color to décor or landscaping.  I added this darling boxwood wreath to the door and hung it with burlap and a brown satin ribbon.  I like how it compliments the planted topiary and that I can easily transition it for the Christmas season just by changing the ribbon.

For now I added the white pumpkin, but hopefully one of these weekends we'll make it to a pumpkin patch so the kids can pick out some more pumpkins for carving.  But I have to say, my simple decorating heart really kinda likes the one, lone, white pumpkin :)

The space is limited, so keeping it simple was my goal.  I made just a few minor changes, but it's definitely feeling a little more Fall like.  Amazing that so little can transform the space to fit the season.  What about you...have you decorated for Fall yet?  Do you bring your decorating outdoors?  Or do you choose to decorate for Halloween instead?

Pumpkin Roll Recipe with Cream Cheese Filling

Hope you had a lovely weekend!  We woke up to rain and noticeably cooler weather yesterday, which we happily welcomed.  That little push of cooler air, got me thinking Fall and this recipe came to mind.  My sister-in-law made this a few years ago at Thanksgiving and it was so delicious!  I've made it several times since, and it's always a hit!

The filling is the best!  Gooey, buttery, cream cheese goodness!

All I needed to pick up to make this was a can of pumpkin, so I whipped it up yesterday afternoon and thought I would share it today!  So here it is.

Pumpkin Roll with cream cheese filling

bread ingredients
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup canned pumpkin
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup pecans
  • powdered sugar to sprinkle

filling ingredients
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Method
  1. Mix all filling ingredients together first and allow to sit at room temp until ready to spread.
  2. Preheat over to 375.
  3. Mix flour, baking soda, sugar and cinnamon in bowl.
  4. Next mix in pumpkin and eggs.
  5. Cover cookie sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
  6. Spread bread batter onto paper over pan and sprinkle pecans over top and bake for 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from over and turn over onto dish towel.
  8. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and roll up into dish towel and allow to cool for 1 hour.
  9. After cooling unroll and spread filling over the top and re-roll without towel.  (Bread may break, but not to worry, it will still turn out great!)
  10. After rolling with filling, wrap in foil and allow to cool in refrigerator for at least 1 hour or until ready to serve.
