top 10 projects of 2013

One of the main reasons I started this blog was to share some of our diy projects.  I'm fortunate my husband is really handy and by doing many projects ourselves we have saved a lot of money.  In our last home we did so many big home improvement projects and I didn't document any of them :(  And we did major stuff like place real wood flooring throughout our whole downstairs which took weeks to finish because we did it after work when the kids went to bed and on weekends cutting and placing each and every piece.  It was exhausting, but we saved so much money doing it ourselves.  We remodeled our kitchen with new backsplash, countertops and appliances.  Built a huge playscape in our backyard for the kids and my husband's most famous project, was a huge toy closet/room he created with attic space on our second level.  I still remember coming home one day and going upstairs to find him cutting a huge hole in our sheetrock 'to see what kind of space was behind the wall.'  It ended up turning out great and fit every toy and including a play kitchen and was still so big that the kids would sit in there and play.

Anyways, we love doing projects and although we haven't tackled any major ones like above since I started blogging, we still did a few minor ones throughout the year.  You can click the link below each picture for a full post.

statement chair // one kings lane

I love a great statement chair to add to my home design.  When One Kings Lane recently asked me... what chair in my home most reflects my personal style?...this upholstered chair immediately came to mind.  It has several design elements that I love and best of all it easily pairs with most any décor in my home.  The tufted linen fabric blends perfectly with my neutral color scheme in my home and the shiny nailheads add a stylish chic touch.  This chair is probably one of the most used chairs in our home.  It spends time in our dining room, our study and this week it's here in our entry complimenting my New Year's Eve décor.

If you love a great statement chair, One Kings Lane's new Home Décor Resource Guide, is a perfect resource for you.  It's a great educational tool to help you learn about the history of chairs and what style of chair you perfer when purchasing or reupholstering your perfect statement chair.  You can browse by period or select an article that fits your needs.  If you're a chair and design lover like me, you should hop over and check out this inspirational resource guide One Kings Lane has created.

Have a great day!

one last look at 2013 and cheers to 2014

Happy New Year!  Welcome 2014!!  I hope everyone had a wonderful time ringing in the new year!  If you follow me on instagram, you've already seen part of this video.  By part I mean that this was the first video I posted to instagram and I didn't realize how short it had to be, so a lot was cut off.  I really started instagram in August 2013 to pass time on our road trip to Florida and I've been hooked ever since.  So this video isn't a full year of 2013, but about half the year, but still fun to look back at :)  I'm a sucker for pictures and video slideshows, so instagram and this video are really dear to me.

And finally I want to say thank you all so much for reading this little blog.  It's such a joy to write and connect with you all.  Looking forward to another year of projects and adventures!

Cheers to an amazing 2014!!
