We have a small mudroom as you enter the house from the garage. Our plan is for my husband to one day build some built-ins in the space, but until then I decided to begin organizing part of it with things we already owned so that it could be functional. There is a small wall that is bumped out, so I focused on that area first. I added these very sturdy hooks from Pottery Barn. In the summer (which is when I took these pictures,) these hooks hold our swim bag and my purse. However once school starts and cooler temps arrive, it is filled with backpacks and jackets.
The shelf is from Ikea and was once painted blue and in our playroom a couple of years ago. I repainted it white and added the baskets from Target. The baskets are currently holding a few of my son and husband's baseball caps and some gloves and warm hats that the kids use almost daily in the winter when we walk to the bus stop. I added a small bench and cushion to create a spot to sit. And finally I have a large basket next to the door heading out to the garage that holds all our shoes.
There is still work to be done in this space. I'd like to add a mirror and chalkboard to the adjacent wall, and maybe some more hooks. But for now it's functional and much prettier than a blank wall :)
Simple, but useful...and lovely as usual. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! It's always so difficult to try to figure ways to manage clutter. I came across your site from the Naptime review. Feel free to check out my site https://fashionablysaving.wordpress.com/

This is so beautiful. . . I love it. And your "ladybug" little one could not be any cuter. Great idea with the chalkboard. Will do that with my son on Friday. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteI love simple makeovers. :) Thanks for linking up at Friday Fun Party
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable! I had wait for my husband to do the same thing with my small closet/mudroom. Before he built in the bench it was so nice just to have it looking good.
ReplyDeleteYour mudroom looks functional and so cute at the same time! And that's what we're all about, right?
