Good morning! Hope you had a great weekend! Now that the stockings have been taken down and the confetti has been swept away, I am feeling the need to streamline a few things in our home. Something that really needed to be tackled was our daily paper system. The counter space right next to my kitchen desk seemed to be the spot that collected everything, including the mail, receipts, school work, school papers, my lists, etc.
To help solve this paper clutter, I found this nice size basket from Home Goods. It has been a great place for me to quickly toss everything initially to contain it for a day or two. I even throw my keys or sunglasses in here just to keep the counter space clear. The papers from this basket then at the end of the day either get filed away or thrown away.
I have been on the lookout for some larger wall filing containers for awhile and recently came across these wall hanging baskets at World Market. (They have small, medium, and large sizes. I bought the medium size.) I love how they are working for us. Preston has a daily 2 inch homework binder that comes home on Mondays and then we return it on Friday. It needs a safe spot during the week while it is in our possession. I have tried magazine wall hanging systems, but they are too small for his binder. These baskets are large enough for his binder and they provide a safe location off the counter. They also hold both kids' library books and Lyla's preschool communication folder.
I made a name label for each basket out of card stock and attached it with twine, so they each would have a dedicated basket. I like that the baskets are visible to the kids and they can reach in and get their school work or books as needed. Being visual also helps me remember where things are and helps remind me to turn things in on time.
These three baskets have made such a huge difference keeping us more organized on a daily bases. Do you have a daily organization system that works well for you? Has the new year sparked any organization projects for you?
Have a great day!
